I can hardly fathom the thoughtfulness shown to me over the last few months before and after Ellie’s birth! So many people have sent gifts and/or notes of love. Perhaps the most thoughtful individual of all has been my little sister Grace. She sent me this hand made note the other day along with a [...]
The Unabridged Mark Twain. Running Press 1976. Abandoned on 7th Avenue. Recovered to my delight on a bright Saturday morning. The book contains 22 Mark Twain tales and exists a perfect match to my Complete Short Stories volume. Mark Twain is one of my favorite authors. In his full-length stories he captures the heart of [...]
I must admit that I have been finding much comfort and pleasure in…I’m ashamed to say it…ice cream lately or anything chocolate! Ugh, many years ago now I was a very, very healthy high schooler whose one indulgence was a Fig Newton or a York peppermint pattie. Fast forward some years and one child and [...]
Brooklyn streets are the eager vessel of pirate bounty. Untold and unexpected plunder can be found marooned on the shores of her city stoops. Discarded books catch my eye; they tell tales of the pulse and soul of the city: Modernists, beats, philosophers. On the sidewalk, Jack Kerouac On the Road recently fell to my [...]
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIG BOY! The years do fly by as people say. I can hardly believe how much you are talking now and just acting so independent. And you’re even letting your bottle go for a sippy cup instead…a big step for you! You are such a blessing to us Micah and we love your [...]
Ellie at just a week or two, sadly the only picture taken of my little girl and I together besides those from the hospital. I’ve always loved to sing. Sing, sing, sing is what I did as a child. Say any word and I’d make up a song about it to the complete annoyance of [...]
Micah, like most toddlers, loves to throw his food on the floor as he sits in his high chair. Thankfully, he is doing this less now that Rick and I have been serious about making sure he either eats the food or puts it back on the high chair tray if he is done instead [...]
Finally, people on the street act like I know a thing or two about being a mother! It seems that now having two little ones, I am among what I observe may be a minority of mothers here in Park Slope, those of us who have two or more children…and stay home with those children [...]
One month and 4 days ago, this was Micah and I just hours before Ellie’s birth. We were walking home from the hospital where we would soon return! How time flies and oh how I love my little baby girl! (and we’ve got a real internet connection now so more to come soon folks!)
This is Rick here. We’ve moved into our new apartment, but we have very spotty wireless connections. We are planning to get cable connected this week, so please plan to start checking the blog again next week for more word wizardry with Susanna. Here are some more pictures of “Lellie” (as Micah calls her)
