If anyone is looking for a write-in candidate for President, here is how President Rick would fix the country:
The Fair Tax. A flat tax on consumption replacing all other taxes. No loopholes, no penalizing work and earnings, and most importantly no power for politicians to use the tax code to enslave America and grant political favors.
Balanced Budget Amendment. If the money isn’t there, you can’t just print more or borrow into oblivion. New York City is facing major losses of revenue in the next few years. We have a balanced budget requirement and so the politicians are at work slashing spending. Do you think liberal New York would otherwise EVER reduce spending?
The Gold Standard. I don’t understand how our current system works. No one really does and that’s a problem. I don’t know if the gold standard is even the best way, but we need a simple monetary system that is not based on printing money out of thin air and putting a wet finger up to determine policy.
Restore the Constitutional Role of the Supreme Court. No more legislating from the bench. If a Justice wants to suggest a new policy, fine, talk to your Congressman like the rest of us.
Abolish Punitive Damages in the Court. If you spill coffee and burn yourself, you can’t sue for more than actual damage. Or an alternative is a loser-pays system with immediate jail time and loss of license to any lawyer participating in a frivolous lawsuit.
Abolish Foreign Aid. Want to help Africa with AIDS? Send a check to a non-profit, no more shipping US Money to countries who don’t even like us.
A True Defensive Military. We don’t have the will to fight a war to win anymore. So lets try this out: not a single base, not a single soldier, not a single battle off our shore unless a shot is fired on our soil. And a loud, clear warning that on the heals of any shot that is fired here we will wipe the heck out your entire country through a series of ICBM’s, civilians and all. I’ll guarantee 2 things. 1) someone will test us on this. 2) they’ll be the last

You should run for office:) I especially like “the fair tax” and “a true defensive military.”

GREAT platform. You had my full support until your last point.
I see a tension in your idea of a true defensive military. If we currently have the lack of will to fight and win a war, (and I think you are, to a large degree, correct in this assessment) is it reasonable to think that we would then be willing, per your description, to annihilate a country, just because it picks a fight with us within our own borders?
With this policy would it be acceptable to you to more than likely conceded South Korea to the North? How long do you suppose the nation of Japan would continue to exist? Are there any friendly nations in the world you would be willing to defend? Would this not also require the closing of our embassies around the world? There is usually a small detachment of our military supporting them.
The only things missing from your platform that I need to hear before I cast my ballot, is your energy plan and immigration policy, although from your last graphic above, I think I can figure that out. As a resident of Texas, this looks like a good approach, paricularly if the fence is drawn to scale, as it appears to be about 150 miles high. That ought to do it!
Glad you are back to blogging. And the subject matter is a bit more light hearted than those of a year ago or so.

[...] Chuck raises some great questions about “The Rick Doctrine” when it comes to military policy. I will admit that I don’t quite know what to do with the subject of the military. I know there are some holes in my position that I can’t quite think through an answer. Here are my thoughts: [...]
