This is really a reply meant for your wife Suzanna. She wrote about Compassion on her blog and was wondering whether it was legit. I can totally appreciate her concern, because I had the exact same concern.
Since then I’ve sponsored several children with Compassion and have gone to see them. They are truly doing what they say they will do. I’ve seen with my own eyes many times. Also, I actually did an interview with Dr. Wess Stafford, the President of Compassion and in the interview, I learned that it is one of the highest rated organizations in the world, when it comes to integrity.
As far as sponsoring a young 5 year old child, I can say that you will get some letters from “him/her” but they will probably be written by their parent or tutor, because the child is too young to write at that age. They might not even understand the concept of being sponsored, but once they are about 8 years old, their sponsor becomes very important in their life and they absolutely adore the sponsor.
